What happens when the rebellion fails and despair sets in? Squid Game Season 3 picks up right from the intense cliffhanger of Season 2, entering a final, uncloaked battle for survival. With Gi-hun’s spirit shattered and new, ruthless games ahead, this season delivers one last, brutal test of humanity and resolve.

Squid Game Season 3” is a South Korean television series released on Netflix on June 27, 2025. Written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, Season 3 is the final season of the Squid Game series available to watch on Netflix.

Plot Summary

Player 456, Seong Gi-hun, is sent back to the dorm after failing to revolt against the Front Man. He realizes that, except for Cho Hyun-ju and Kang Dae-ho, everyone else in the rebel group is dead. He blames Dae-ho, who chickened out at the last moment, for their failure.

Meanwhile, Kang No-eul saves player 246, Park Gyeong-seok, by pretending to form an alliance with organ traffickers. She asks the masked officer to help her escape from the island with player 246. After voting, the results favor Team X.

Soon, the game of hide-and-seek begins, where each tagger has to kill at least one hider, and hiders have to find the exit without getting killed by taggers. During the game, Player 222, Kim Jun-hee, gives birth to a baby girl while Geum-ja and Hyun-ju help her.

The VIPs arrive, and the next game of jumping rope begins. Gi-hun successfully crosses the bridge with Jun-hee's baby, but only eight players survive this game. Meanwhile, with the help of Woo-seok, Jun-ho discovers Captain Park's alliance with Front Man, but succeeds in killing Captain Park and finds the cliff from where he was pushed.

No-eul goes back to the island after being threatened by a masked officer, while Jun-ho saves Gyeong-seok from the guards sent to capture him. The final game of the Sky Squid Game begins where Jun-hee's baby participates as player 222, replacing her mother.

The players have to push at least one player to move to the next platform for three rounds to win the game. At last, Myung-gi, Gi-hun, and the baby manage to reach the final round by dramatically eliminating the other players.

At Front Man's office, No-eul destroys the physical records of the players by killing the masked officer, while Jun-ho finds the island but fails to catch In-ho as the island was set to self-destruct.

My Thoughts

Squid Game's Season 3 is a continuation of Season 2 and also the finale of the series. The writer has concluded the series more realistically with emotional depth and intense drama. The cinematography of the show captured the grand finale of the series with interesting game setups and a horrific survival theme.

Just like previous seasons, this season also introduced thrilling games like deadly hide-and-seek, jump rope with giant dolls, and nerve-wrecking sky squid game. They are truly innovative and engaging to watch.

The whole cast delivered the best performance in terms of acting, and special shoutouts to Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Im Si-wan, Park Sung-hoon, Kang Ae-shim, and Jo Yu-ri. Every character was memorable and left a lasting impression on the audience. I loved the trio of Hyun-ju, Geum-ja, and Jun-hee; their bond is SO heartwarming, and the last scene of Gi-hun is really tear-jerking.

This season's every scene is filled with emotions, whether it is Gi-hun's regret for their unsuccessful revolt, Geum-ja and Jun-hee's motherly sacrifices, or Myung-gi's desperation; everyone poured their heart into it and created unforgettable characters.

The show successfully delivered the consequences of greed and inhumanity. The ending of the show was somewhat predictable, where many thought that Gi-hun would put an end to the games and escape with others, but the finale took a different turn, and the last twist will leave you speechless.

This season is an emotional roller-coaster with heartbreaking scenes that will raise thought-provoking questions and a lingering feeling of emptiness.

As Squid Game makes its final descent, the story comes full circle. Season 3 isn’t just another chapter; it's the climactic conclusion to Gi-hun’s harrowing journey and the deadly world he’s navigating. Expect tension, heartbreak, and morally agonizing decisions, as the series bids farewell with high stakes and raw emotion that will linger long after the screen fades to black.
