“Dali and Cocky Prince” is a South Korean television series aired on KBS2 from September 22, 2021, to November 11, 2021. Written by Son Eun-hye & Park Se-eun and directed by Lee Jung-seob, this romcom series is available to watch on Netflix and other streaming platforms.

Plot Summary 

A native art curator and talented researcher, Kim Dali arrives at the airport in Amsterdam to pick up a VIP art patron. However, she accidentally picks up Jin Moo-hak, the street-smart director of Dondon F&B, instead of the intended VIP guest. They share a brief, memorable connection before parting. 

Dali returns to Korea upon hearing the news of her father's death. Her father, Kim Nak-cheon, was the director of the Cheong-song Art Museum. As Dali takes over the management of the family art museum, she discovers that it is burdened with significant debt and facing a financial crisis. 

Dali sells her personal assets and home to pay off her immediate debts. After becoming homeless, she seeks shelter with Joo Won-tak, a detective from the Violet Crime Unit, and supported by Nak-cheon since childhood. 

Dali meets Moo-hak again as he goes to the Cheong-song museum to collect the money he had lent them previously. Despite their creditor-debtor relationship, Moo-hak helps Dali to run the museum and save it from closing down. As they open up about their emotional wounds, they both develop feelings for each other, leading to a beautiful blossoming romance between them. 

Jang Tae-jin, head of Century Group and Dali's ex-fiancé, tries to win her back using his power and money. Kim Si-hyung, Nak-cheon's nephew, desires to inherit the museum and sell it to assemblyman Ahn. To corner Dali into giving up the museum, Si-hyung accuses his late uncle Nak-cheon of being a drug addict. 

When Won-tak, Dali, and Moo-hak dig deeper into Nak-cheon's death, the shocking truth comes out.

My Thoughts 

When a cultured, artistic curator meets a cocky, cost-effective restaurateur, a beautiful love story begins to unfold. Set against the theme of "opposites attract," the drama blends lighthearted romantic comedy with charming characters. 

The cinematography of the show captures the artistic aesthetics, high-quality production, and heart-fluttering romance. The entire cast delivered outstanding performances, while lead actors Park Gyu-young and Kim Min-jae portrayed the most memorable characters. 

The strong on-screen chemistry between Dali and Moo-hak will leave you mesmerized. Dali's transformation from a naive girl to a confident leader and Moo-hak's change from a cocky prince to a kind-hearted man exemplify remarkable character growth. 

The witty exchanges between Moo-hak and Won-tak, Chak-hee's endearing tantrums, Mi-ri's role as Moo-hak's hilarious secretary, and the bonding among the museum staff, along with many other scenes, add a fun element to the show. 

Filled with romance, comedy, drama, and a little dark twist, this series is truly entertaining. It explores the intersection of high-class art and street-smart business, highlighting the importance of emotional intelligence and practicality. 

The show concludes with a positive ending, showcasing how the lead couple evolves together while breaking free from toxic stereotypes and typical expectations. I thoroughly enjoyed this drama, and if you are a fan of lighthearted romantic comedies with unique themes, this show is a must-watch.
