Plot Summary

A popular artist and creator of webtoon W, Oh Seong-moo, went missing just before the release of W's final chapter. His daughter, Oh Yeon-joo, a surgeon at Myung-sei Hospital, starts looking for him in his studio. Suddenly, she gets pulled into the monitor and finds herself in the webtoon's world.

The man who pulled her into the webtoon is none other than Kang Cheol, the main lead of W. He has been an Olympic Gold medalist in shooting in his youth and now owns a broadcasting channel as well as works as co-CEO of an e-commerce company. His family was killed by a mysterious murderer, while Cheol became the prime suspect of the murder, but later his innocence was proved.

While seeking revenge for his family, Cheol gets stabbed by the unknown murderer, but Yeon-joo saves him after getting pulled into the webtoon. Seong-moo and Yeon-joo discover that W has started drawing on its own, and they can enter or leave the webtoon based on Cheol's feelings.

Seong-moo tries to kill Cheol by drawing the suicide plot, but Cheol survives, and the webtoon continues. Kang Cheol enters the real world and discovers he is a character in a webtoon. He confronts Seong-moo and asks him to give his family's murderer an identity, so he can seek revenge.

After having numerous encounters in webtoon and the real world, Yeon-joo and Cheol fall in love with each other, and Yeon-joo becomes the character of the webtoon as Cheol's love interest.

Meanwhile, the unknown murderer enters the real world and reads the webtoon. He injures Seong-moo and takes his face with a new name, Han Sang-hoon, to manipulate the webtoon according to his wish. Sang-hoon conspires with a corrupt prosecutor, Han Cheol-ho, to kill Cheol while Yeon-joo tries to save him by any possible means.

My Thoughts

The writer has brought a unique storyline between the characters of the real world and the webtoon world. The fresh concept of linking the real world to webtoon is perfectly delivered through strong performances and script writing.

The cinematography of the show perfectly captures the two different worlds and their interesting connection with each other. The fantasy theme of the series centered on the romance between a webtoon character and a real-world surgeon.

Performance-wise, all the cast members did a commendable job, but I would like to specifically praise Lee Jong-suk and Han Hyo-joo for portraying such charming characters. The on-screen chemistry between Kang Cheol and Yeon-joo is undeniably awesome and worth watching.

I loved their initial encounters where Yeon-joo was trying to figure out how she could go back to the real world. The scene where she suddenly slaps Cheol, thinking she might return to her world by doing this, is SO hilarious! The weird antics she pulled to go back while making Cheol speechless are the peak comedy of the show.

The fantasy plot of the show perfectly incorporated romance, comedy, drama, mystery, and crime aspects. It showcased how the author's intention manipulated the webtoon's narrative while Yeon-joo's entry in the webtoon impacted the real world.

The intricate plot with a murder mystery made the drama truly engaging, while the fast-paced nature of the show kept it entertaining till the very end. I binge-watched this drama and absolutely loved the happy ending; it is satisfying to watch.
