Plot Summary

Tak Dong-Kyung is an editor at a publishing firm and lives with her immature younger brother, Tak Sun-kyung. She is diagnosed with a terminal illness, which will allow her to live only for three months, on her parents' death anniversary. Also, her boyfriend cheats on her; she finds out that he is married and his wife is pregnant.

Frustrated with her unfairly challenging life, Dong-kyung turns to alcohol and wishes to destroy the world upon seeing a shooting star. Myul Mang (Doom - messenger between human and God), who happens to hear her wish, decides to fulfill it and signs a hundred-day contract with her. Dong-kyung starts living her life however she wants, for the last hundred days she has left, while Myul Mang protects her as per the contract.

Na Ji-na, Dong-kyung's best friend, is caught up in a love triangle where she is confused between Cha Joo-ik, who is Dong-kyung's team leader, and Lee Hyun-kyu, who is Joo-ik's roommate.

Hyun-kyu is Ji-na's childhood crush who ghosted her and went abroad, but he comes back and starts a cafe in the same building where Joo-ik works. Meanwhile, Joo-ik, who has feelings for Ji-na, decides to confess his love while keeping Hyun-kyu's return a secret from her.

Eventually, Ji-na learns about Hyun-kyu but struggles to decide whom she loves between the two. On the other hand, Dong-kyung and Myul Mang end up falling for each other. But they have to fight against fate to survive and be together.

My Thoughts

The writer has created a fictional love story between a doom and a human, who seek the hope of living amidst their tragic circumstances. The cinematography of the show is beautiful, capturing the slow-burning romance and complex relationships. The show has dark and cold vibes representing the destruction, which is the main theme of the show.

The whole cast did a commendable job in terms of performance while serving the best visuals. The on-screen chemistry between Seo In-guk and Park Bo-young is SO good, and the love triangle between Lee Soo-hyuk, Shin Do-hyun, and Kang Tae-oh is truly adorable. I really enjoyed watching it.

My favorite scene is when Dong-kyung fights with her ex-boyfriend at her workplace; he brings up manners and spells it incorrectly while Joo-ik calmly corrects him, saying M-A-N-N-E-R. It is the most hilarious scene in the drama, and I always crack up when I see it.

The fantasy plot of the series is more focused on intricate romance with a touch of sadness to it. It's a slow-paced drama and a bit difficult to understand due to complex writing and execution. Although the series remained unpredictable till the very end, which was engaging to watch, at times it felt boring due to excessive sad scenes and constant despair.

The show tells us that every moment is a gift and to live it fully; there is always hope, no matter how difficult the situation is. Nonetheless, the ending is beautiful and satisfactory, making the show worth watching.

Doom at Your Service is more than just a love story; it’s a reminder of how fragile yet powerful life and love can be. If you’re looking for a heartfelt drama that blends fantasy, romance, and deep emotions, this one is bound to stay with you long after the final episode.
