What happens when justice turns its back on the victims? Taxi Driver Season 1 takes you on a thrilling ride where revenge becomes a form of justice. With a mysterious driver and a secret organization targeting the corrupt and cruel, the show dives deep into moral gray areas, asking whether vengeance can ever truly heal the broken. 

“Taxi Driver Season 1” is a South Korean television series aired on SBS from April 9, 2021, to May 29, 2021. Directed by Park Joon-Woo and written by Oh Sang-Ho and Lee Ji-Hyun, this action-packed revenge series is available to watch on Netflix and other streaming platforms.

Plot Summary 

Kim Do-gi, a former Korean army special forces officer, works as a deluxe taxi driver at Rainbow Taxi Company. Rainbow Taxi is not an ordinary taxi company; it provides a special service to passengers seeking revenge against those who have wronged them. 

After his mother's death, Do-gi couldn’t avenge her murder, so he teamed up with Jang Sung-chul, the CEO of Rainbow Taxi, to punish the criminals that the legal system failed to hold accountable. 

Sung-chul also serves as the Director of a non-profit organization called Blue Bird, which assists crime victims with their legal issues. Just like Do-gi, he also lost his parents after a serial killer murdered them, which led him to start Rainbow Taxi. 

He builds a strong team to tackle cruel criminals, which includes Ahn Go-eun, Choi Kyung-ku, and Park Jin-eon. Go-eun is an adept hacker who works as a bookkeeper at Rainbow Taxi following the tragic suicide of her older sister. 

Kyung-ku, a former automobile development researcher, now works as a lead mechanic, while Jin-eon, previously an aircraft maintenance mechanic, is currently an assistant mechanic at Rainbow Taxi. All of them use their former occupation skills to handle the complex cases that their clients bring, in the hope of justice. 

Kang Ha-na, a prosecutor at Seoul Northern District, who possesses a strong sense of justice, becomes suspicious of Rainbow Taxi and tries to find out about their secret organization. After crossing her path with Do-gi multiple times, she gets interested in their work and eventually ends up siding with them. 

Baek Sung-mi, the chairwoman of Nakwon C&C and a well-known player in the black market, collaborates with Sung-chul to detain the criminals captured by Rainbow Taxi. But after her wrongdoings are exposed, she betrays Rainbow Taxi and threatens to harm them. 

As Do-gi, Sung-chul, and Ha-na delve deeper into complex and dangerous cases, they begin to question what is right and wrong while striving to find the true meaning of justice.   

My Thoughts 

Inspired by real-world crime stories, the writer presents a gripping narrative about a secret organization disguised as a taxi company that punishes cruel criminals in their own way. 

The cinematography of the show captures the raw emotions of crime victims failed by the law system and the revenge taken on their behalf by a taxi driver. With its dark and chilling theme, each episode takes us on a thrilling ride of vengeance and hope for justice. 

The whole cast did a commendable job in terms of acting, and special shout-outs to Lee Je-hoon, Kim Eui-sung, Esom, Pyo Ye-jin, Jang Hyuk-jin, and Bae Yoo-ram for their excellent acting performance. Also, I would like to praise the action scenes played by Lee Je-hoon; they are worth watching. 

Despite its serious tone, the show managed to incorporate dark and witty humor to lighten the tension. I loved Do-gi's all get-ups, but my favorite one is Mr. Wang Taozhi. His chemistry with Madam Lim is the peak comedy of the show. I root for this duo! 

Besides that, each character has a backstory that helps the audience connect with them. The camaraderie spirit among the Rainbow taxi team was backed by their mutual sense of justice and empathy towards the victims wronged by the fearless lawbreakers. 

Each case reflected the harsh reality of the world, mirroring the wicked mentality that should be put to an end at once. As the show approaches its conclusion, numerous thought-provoking questions about injustice emerge, highlighting the flaws in the justice system. 

It explores the thin line between vigilantism and justice while challenging the morality and consequences of such actions. The series skillfully blended the revenge, action, crime, drama, and dark comedy genres, delivering the entertainment-packed ride to its viewers. 

I binged-watched this drama and enjoyed every bit of it. Also, I loved the satisfactory ending, and I can't wait to watch the next season of this gripping K-drama. 

Taxi Driver isn’t just about revenge; it’s about hope, healing, and standing up for those who can’t fight back. Each episode hits hard, blending action with emotion and justice with compassion. If you love stories that make you question right and wrong, this ride is one you won’t forget.
