Weak Hero Class 1 takes you deep into the dark corners of high school life where strength isn't just about muscle - it's about resilience, intelligence, and the will to survive. This K-drama blends raw emotion with fierce action, making it a standout in the school-bullying genre.

Weak Hero Class 1” is a South Korean action series that released its first season on Wavve on 18 November 2022. Written by Yoo Soo-min and Kim Jin-seok and directed by Yoo Soo-min and Park Dan-hee, the series is an adaptation of a Webtoon called “Weak Hero.” Season 1 comprises 8 episodes and is available on Netflix and Viki to watch.

Plot Summary

Yeon Si-eun is a high school student known for his excellent academic performance. However, he is solely focused on his studies and has little interest in anything else. His quiet demeanor and lack of friends make him a target for bullying from his classmates. Although he is physically weak, Si-eun cleverly uses his theoretical knowledge of physics to defend himself by utilizing the objects around him.

One of his main bullies, Yeong-bin, takes things too far when he drugs Si-eun to ruin his exam, with the help of Oh Beom-seok, the timid son of an assemblyman who is also abused by his father. When Si-eun confronts Yeong-bin, Beom-seok feels guilty and brings in Anh Su-ho, the best fighter in their class, who has a background in martial arts, to help Si-eun. This incident opens the door for their friendship, and the three of them become close to each other. However, this fight also places them in serious danger, ultimately threatening their friendship.

My Thoughts

The story is short, but the writing is skillfully entertaining. The characters of high school students are perfectly portrayed by Park Ji-hoon, Choi Hyun-wook, and Hong Kyun. I would like to especially praise Park Ji-hoon's performance; his emotional scene at the end is commendable. Although the drama is set in a school, it conveys a cold and serious atmosphere of violence and bullying, reflecting the harsh realities of the world.

The story is fast-paced and keeps you hooked until the very end, complemented by exciting action scenes. Honestly, while watching this series, I never felt bored and was fully engrossed in it. This is the first season of the series, and the next season is set to be released in April 2025, continuing the story from where it left off.

Overall, "Weak Hero Class 1" is an excellent action thriller with a youthful take on high school life. I loved the acting and the concise storytelling. If you enjoy watching this genre, I would strongly recommend watching it.
