My Comfort Food: That Feels Like a Warm Hug
Some foods feel like a warm hug for me; it’s always been Maggi. Whether it’s a rainy evening or a bad day, a bowl of spicy, buttery Maggi is my instant remedy.
“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well if one has not dined well.” This quote by Virginia Woolf highlights the significant role that food plays in our lives. Life is filled with ups and downs, and at every stage, food is there to accompany us. Comfort food uplifts your mood even when you are sad or going through a hard time. It is like a cozy spot in our home where we feel safe and relaxed.
Let me tell you my comfort food, and it’s not something fancy or needs expert culinary skills, it’s simple - Maggi. Yes, the favorite of all age groups is “Maggi 2-minute noodles”. I know it is not healthy, but there is no rule that comfort food has to be healthy. Besides, I’m not eating it every day; once in a while is fine. So basically, Maggi is an instant noodle brand from the Swiss company Nestle. They do sell other products also, and they are famous internationally. But my comfort food is Maggi noodles.
Maggi was the first food that I learned to cook, even before I could master making tea (India’s soul, ‘Chai’). Maggi is a savory instant noodles that come with noodles and a special spice mix, which is called Maggi Masala. Don’t get fooled by its tagline of 2-minute noodles, because in reality, it will at least take 5 to 15 minutes to make. But being Indian, I won’t make it as it is, we gotta add some Desi Tadka to it. Otherwise, it will taste just like another instant noodle in the market, so we will improvise it in an Indian style.
First of all, take a bunch of vegetables of your choice and chop them finely. Try to add a variety of vegetables like onion, tomato, carrots, beans, peas, capsicum, etc. Take a pan and add oil or butter to it. Add all the chopped vegetables and sauté well. Next, you can add a little bit of ginger-garlic paste if you want, or you can skip it. Add a pinch of turmeric, red chili powder, and salt as per your taste. You can add green chili also for extra spiciness.
After the vegetables are cooked well, add water to them. If you like a watery consistency for noodles(like soup), just like me, add more water, or else add enough water to cook noodles. Then add noodles to it and let them cook for 2-3 minutes. After the noodles are separated, add our MVP Maggi Special Masala and cook the noodles for another minute. Once done serve the piping-hot noodles with coriander garnish and just devour it.
Making my comfort food is incredibly easy. For me, whether I'm experiencing a happy moment or a sad one, there is always room for Maggi in my stomach and my heart. It comforts my soul and lifts my mood in any situation. Just like me, everyone has their comfort food that brings them happiness. It could be anything from dal and rice to khichdi and kadhi, or even your favorite cheesecake. These dishes provide solace during both the lows and highs of life. So, discover your comfort food and indulge in its deliciousness.
